Recognized with its flattened body & rows of spikes from head to tail, the Texas horned lizard can squirt blood out of its eyes as a defense. They prefer dry, flat terrain with little vegetative cover near harvester ant mounds.

This one posed for a #CarlsbadCaverns ranger.

I love this, from @TPWDparks map of Devils River SNA: "Protect our dark skies. Starting 2 hours after sunset, please use minimal lighting as needed to safely navigate within your campsite." If only more folks would notice.
